JOB TITLE:

Database Administrator DR1

DIRECT REPORTING STRUCTURE:

DR1 - Supervisor

INDIRECT REPORTING STRUCTURE:

PURPOSE:

The Database Administrator at DR1 is the primary it Recovery expert as it pertains to data replication technologies. This includes the setup, monitoring, as well as continuous testing of those technologies.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The database administration team is responsible for reliability, integrity, availability and consistency of data through the support of the database environments throughout the Expeditors systems. As a DBA, you will engage business analysts, system architects, systems administrators, software developers and quality assurance resources to deliver a database environment that supports our business objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

People:

Be a team player

Attend Corporate DBA team meetings

Articulate technical topics to non-technical individuals or teams

Operations:

Database Backup and Recovery

Database Design

Database High Availability / Disaster Recovery Solutions

Database Installation, Configurations, and Upgrades

Database Migrations to New Servers

Database Monitoring

Database Performance

Database Replication

Database Security / Authorizations

Database Troubleshooting

SQL Tuning

On call duty rotation with corporate DBA team

Customer

Acknowledge customer requests and take ownership

Maintain a IT Recovery first mindset when interacting with internal or external customers

Strong follow through with customer engagements, achieving closure

Finance:

Ensure hardware and software resources are efficiently used

Perform return on investment analysis for project efforts

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND BEHAVIOUR:

Knowledge:

DB2, SQL Server, PostgreSQL experience

Structured Query Language (SQL)

Scripting/Programming (e. g. Perl, Shell, Java, Python, Powershell etc.)

Linux , Unix, and Windows OS

Skill:

Capacity planning

Exploratory analysis

Organization

Research and troubleshooting

TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Training Requirements:

Meet company standards of 52 hours training per year, including as needed management/leadership training.

Education and Experience:

2+ years working as a Database Administrator or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • DB2 Expertise Required
  • Familiarity with other relational database management systems ( SQL Server, Oracle) and their core concepts
  • Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Experience with Unix and Microsoft Windows environments
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently
  • Ability to collaborate in team environment

Essential Experience

  • Mid-level experience configuring, installing, monitoring and maintenance of DB2
  • Mid-level experience troubleshooting database errors and tuning database performance
  • Ability to research and evaluates alternatives, and recommend business solutions
  • Ability to self-sufficiently prioritize and execute tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Clear and proactive communication skills with a customer service oriented attitude

Preferred Experience

  • Degree or certification in Computer Science, IT or related field
  • Database design and analysis
  • Scripting Language (Perl, Shell, Java, SQL, etc.)
  • Experience with Unix OS environment
